You are invited. . .

The NCAE Student Program is a pre-professional organization of undergraduate and graduate students preparing for careers in education. As a student member of the North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE), you will stand with 3.2 million other members of the NEA (National Education Association) who comprise a powerful force for educational excellence. By joining the NCAE/NEA, you became part of an important network of North Carolina professionals who work to shape and transform the minds and hearts of today’s youth.

Membership in the NCAE/NEA will afford a number of professional and personal benefits including: access to exciting professional development opportunities, updated professional advice and technical assistance on legal and other school related matters; and discounts on recreational and other goods and services.

Please accept this invitation to join the growing number of pre-professionals and professionals, as we work together to support teaching and learning in North Carolina Public schools.

Teaching isn't just a job. It's a way of life.

You have chosen an exciting profession, one that demands your best. Whether you're just starting college or completing your student teaching, Student NCAE can make a big difference in your career.

Who we are:
Student NCAE is North Carolina's professional association for college students who plan to become teachers. We have about 600 members around the state, and we're growing.

Student NCAE is part of NCAE. NCAE is an association of North Carolina teachers, college faculty, and other public employees. We are a nonprofit grassroots organization.

What's in it for you:

Networking: Student NCAE helps you tap into a first-class professional network of people in education today: practicing teachers and college professors at the local, state, and national levels.

Million-dollar protection!

Many schools require you to be covered by liability insurance when you student teach.

As a member of Student NCAE, you'll be covered by our million-dollar liability insurance policy every time you step into a classroom on assignment.

That includes student teaching and anything else assigned by your college. It also includes substitute teaching after you graduate, as long as you are still a member of NCAE.

Helping you teach your best: Successful teaching requires many specialized skills: planning, classroom management, diagnosis, and counseling, to name a few. Your college courses can teach some of these things, but even your professors can't stay on top of all the latest issues in teaching.

Student NCAE helps you become a well-informed professional teacher through top-quality workshops; conferences; publications; web sites; and the National Education Association's Professional Library - offering the single largest source of professional materials for classroom teachers.

Get your money's worth The professional benefits of joining Student NCAE can't be matched. The practical benefits can quickly repay your dues investment. Some of these practical benefits include:

  • Whopping discounts on professional publications and over 400 magazines.
  • Discounted car insurance, homeowners insurance, and life insurance.
  • Home Financing Program to help you purchase a new home.
  • Special credit cards for members only, with no annual fee and a low percentage rate.
  • Savings and investment programs.

Student NCAE members receive all of these benefits for just $27 a year. That's less than you'd spend for a textbook. (Some local student chapters add a few dollars for local dues.) To learn more about these special member benefits, click here.

Get your money back!
Your Student NCAE dues money serves as a credit toward membership in NCAE when you begin teaching. Plus, during your first year of teaching and regular NEA membership, you'll receive a $20 rebate from NEA for each year of student membership. That means you may receive more money back than you paid in dues as a student!

(To receive a dues rebate form when you begin teaching, contact the NCAE field office nearest you.

You're part of the family! When you join Student NCAE, you also join:

  • The nearly 70,000 members of NCAE,
  • The 3.2 million members of the National Education Association (NEA)

Together, these groups work to:

  • Promote excellence in public education,
  • Help teachers succeed in their profession,
  • Provide good working conditions for teachers and good learning conditions for children,
  • Support legislation and candidates that support kids and public schools.

Your contact at NCAE: Your Student NCAE coordinator is Robert Blackwell, staff member at NCAE.
